There are a lot of clutter-magnets in the average home. And it’s for sure that the garage ranks high upon that list. However, there are a lot of ways to make the space a lot more functional, tidy and user-friendly, without turning your vehicle out of its home.
A good sifting and sorting through is always the first order of business. Throw out what you really don’t need. Properly dispose of hazardous items, like old oil. And always make sure that sharp, dangerous and toxic items are stowed in a way that small ones find them inaccessible.
For everything else, get canny and creative. Use walls to hang medium sized items, peg boards for smaller tools. Draw the tool on the board and you’ll never wonder where it goes again. Use the ceiling. Mount shelves, or create an over the car storage unit. Deep shelves, about 24 inches and sturdy, are a must too.
- Hang and use a peg board for smaller tools, adding outlines of the tools, so it’s always clear where each tool goes.
- Always properly dispose of hazardous elements and make sure that anything dangerous, or toxic, is stored in a way that tots find them inaccessible.
- Use the walls of the garage to hang larger and medium-sized items, thereby freeing up space.
“Summer is closer than you think, and with all that winter stuff still cluttering up your garage, it’s time to think about bringing order to your space.”
