Warning: Think twice before upgrading to Internet Explorer 9

Task Management 1 December 2011 | 0 Comments

We’ve seen an irritating issue with Internet Explorer 9

What happens is that on our Create Task dialogue box , some of the “junior pop ups” are opening way off to the left of the users screen.

For example if you click on set task date or time the little date pickers show up in anopther part of your screen

Hmm.

The issue is that IE 9 is not respecting the CSS left value assigned by the JQuery dialog centering mechanism, which results in the dialog box left aligning with the left hand side of the browser. It doesn’t look too bad on narrow browsers, but looks strange on wider ones.

We tried to also set this manually, and force it using the JQuery centered plugin, but nothing has any effect.

It seems to be a fundamental bug in IE 9 and unfortunately there appears to be very little we can do about it, short of a huge rewrite of parts of the JQuery dialog mechanism or reworking our system to avoid dialogs within dialogs.

Sorry but why should we have to do that?

I guess our best hope with this bug is someone working on JQuery will fix it in time, or subsequent releases of IE 9 will fix the issue. For now all we can do is make users aware of the problem.

So people may want to think twice before upgrading to IE9
